Does Qatar's own AI know your business?

Fanarone of the five engines Awal measures

Fanar is Qatar's own large language model, built at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) with backing from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It's Arabic-first by design: trained to handle the region's language, dialects, and context better than global models that treat Arabic as an afterthought.

01

How buyers use it

An Arabic-speaking customer in Doha can ask Fanar the same things they'd ask ChatGPT, in the language they actually think in: "أفضل عيادة أسنان في الدوحة" or a question about a contractor, a school, a clinic. As Qatar's national model gets built into more local products and services, what it says about your business starts to matter the way what Google says already does.

02

How Awal measures it

We ask Fanar the same buyer-style questions we run on every engine, in English and in Arabic, and read what it answers from its own trained knowledge. No web search is attached; that's how a plain conversation with Fanar works today. Awal's extraction is Arabic-aware, so a mention of your business in Arabic script counts the same as one in English.

03

The honest caveat

Fanar is newer and smaller than the global models, and it answers from training knowledge with a cutoff, so it can miss recent businesses entirely. A gap here is still worth knowing about: it tells you how visible you are to the model built for your own market, and that reading is accurate even when it stings.
